Futures Trading levels and Economic reports for Feb 2nd

*To be removed, please reply with remove daytrading in subject line

Dear Trader,

January ended with the indices being down more than 10% for the month!

For long term traders who follow weekly and monthly charts, that may be a sign that the next leg down is looming.

Should not make a difference for those of us who are day-traders, but its always good to periodically look at longer time frame charts, hence if you are a scalper, does not hurt to look and see what is the hourly chart looks like and if we are in a certain trend etc.

Have a good weekend.

Dear Trader,

It will be interesting to see what kind of follow through we will get tomorrow, after todays rally.

Technically, we broke the short term resistance of 850, next level on the way up is 887. However.....many times the real reaction to FOMC comes the following day so for the market to continue higher over the next few sessions, 850 (the old resistance, now becomes strong support) must hold.

Dear Trader,

I expect similar, choppy action tomorrow until around 1 pm central right before FOMC rate decision (no change expected) and then we may see sharp moves both ways. I have said it before and will say it again, if you are not an experienced trader, I recommend not to trade past 1 PM central and just observe the action tomorrow, as some FOMC announcements were followed by volatile price action.

Dear Trader,

What I wrote Friday still holds with probably more validity as the market was not able to break 850 on this mornings rally:

From fridays blog:

"Market is in a little "war" trying to break either above the 850 or below the 800 and has consolidated in this range for the last few sessions.

In my opinion, an hourly close below 800 or above 850 opens the door for a breakout in that direction."

Volatility returned to the market in the last few sessions and today some erratic price action to go along with the volatility.

I highly recommend to have a stop on each trade you enter as big price moves can happen quickly and sharply!

Futures Trading levels and Economic reports for Jan 21st

*To be removed, please reply with remove daytrading in subject line

Dear Trader,

Bearish technical picture suggests we may be headed towards the lows made back in Nov. 21st  ( 738.50 ), however in the past we have seen some big rallies on different occasions, mostly when the fed. took action such as the ban on short selling etc. I think that market participants have that in the back of their mind and the market will get more sensitive to news as well as rumors as we head lower.

Volatility has picked up again after a relatively quiet period between mid Dec. and Jan. 5th so adjust your trading and mental perspective accordingly.

Dear Trader,

Market made a recent low and bounced nicely on good volume. January options expire tomorrow followed by MLK holiday on Monday.

It feels like the low today at 812.75 should hold for the near term but we should have a better indication after tomorrows action.

Good Trading!

Dear Trader,

The technical picture does not look very good to say the least and chart observers may point towards 828 and 812 as next targets on the way down.

The question I am wondering about is how much more selling pressure will come in and did the market already discounted all the bad news out there?

the only answer is in the price action to come in the sessions ahead.......

Dear Trader,

850 is considered by many as major support level.  Watch the market reaction as negative economic reports and/or earnings come out. Inability to break 850 or continue downtrend momentum on hills of bearish news can actually become a short term bullish factor.

A break and an hourly close  below 850 can trigger a stronger sell off.
