Dear Trader,

Last trading day for the month and the quarter is tomorrow. Todays gap open lower actually,  almost "filled" the gap from a high gap open on the 23rd....not sure if it means anything but the market is now set to show us which is the path of least resistance, either resume the rally from last week or start a new move lower towards the low 700's.

Wishing all of you a great trading day!

Futures Trading levels and Economic reports for March 27th

*To be removed, please reply with remove daytrading in subject line

Dear Trader,

Market had some "issues" deciding which way it wants to go and at the end decided to run up and close right against first daily resistance at 833.

Small level next at 838 and then the next major level is 873.

Below we have small support at: 816, then 807 and then 788.

My bias is for more upside but I really mean it when I say anyone's guess is good as mine.

When it comes to day-trading the key is your money management skills and discipline.

Have a good trading day!

Dear Trader,

I will consider todays retracement "normal" after the big run up we had yesterday.

Market needs to hold above 791, otherwise we may see it try to close the gap it left around 772 from Sunday night session.

837 and then 873 are STRONG resistance levels.

Good Trading!

Futures Trading levels and Economic reports for March 24th

Dear Trader,

Nice rally! up more than 7%.

I wrote on Friday after the market dropped: and the question as always is: "Is this a pull back to re-enter long or was this the end of the short covering rally (we did bounce 20% of the lows made  March 6th)?

Well so far it seems that Friday was a pullback and that the short term mentality has changed from bearish to slightly bullish.

Next target on daily chart below is 873 which was a double top on Jan. 28th and Feb. 9th.

Dear Trader,

What a day...many of you have heard me say that before, "don't try and day-trade 15 minutes before FOMC and until smoke clears after they come out...." today was a classic proof to that theory.

Extremely volatile market after the announcement, which would make it very hard to trade to most people.

Below is a daily chart, with 815 as next target bit really there is no telling what the market will do tomorrow once everyone (mainly professionals) digest the news.

Chart is below the news article below:

DJ Treasurys, Stocks, Rally, Dlr Plunges As Fed Boosts Purchases
Date: 03/18/2009 14:31

   By Madeleine Lim
   Of DOW JONES NEWSWIRES

NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--Treasurys and stocks rallied sharply, while the dollar plunged after the Federal Reserve stepped up efforts to support lending and the economy by ramping up its purchases of fixed income assets.
Following its two-day meeting, the Federal Open Market Committee surprised investors when it said said will buy $300 billion in longer-dated Treasurys over the next six months, along with another $850 billion in mortgage-related debt.
Despite the Fed's significant interventions to prop up credit markets and the federal government's massive stimulus package, the economic outlook remains highly uncertain, and the financial sector is still fragile. Wednesday's move shows the Fed is ready to provide further support to jumpstart lending and housing markets.
Investors cheered the Fed's unexpectedly aggressive move, with longer-dated Treasurys and stocks leading the charge.
The yield on the 10-year Treasury fell about half a percentage point to 2.54%, as the price rallied over four points, The 30-year bond was up more than 7 points to yield 3.40% after the announcement, though it gave up the gains after the New York Fed said it would limit its purchases to two through 10-year maturities.
Short-dated Treasurys saw smaller gains, as these are tied to the official fed funds rate, which remains in a range of zero to 0.25%. The yield on two-year Treasurys was down 1o points at 0.93%.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up about 50 points at 7454.
Wednesday's stock rally is the latest chapter in a strong run for the market, including full-day gains for the Dow in five of the last six trading sessions. However, many participants are continuing to view the surge as a bear-market rally, with a selling likely to pick up as first-quarter earnings season draws closer and new economic data continue to flash signs of recession.
Todd Leone, head of listed trading at Cowen & Co. in New York, noted that major indexes are flirting with key technical levels, including the 800 mark for the S&P. He's also on guard against increased volatility heading into Friday's expiration of options contracts on individual stocks and major indexes.
"We're not out of the woods yet with this market, but every little bit of gain helps," raising the possibility that the broader bear market is drawing at a close, Mr. Leone said.

    The Fed's March Surprise

Many expressed genuine surprise at the timing of the Fed's announcement to buy longer-term Treasurys.
"It takes your breath away," said Chris Ahrens, rates strategist at UBS. Like most market participants, Ahrens had expected the Fed to keep all options open, but not actually announce Treasury purchases.
These purchases are "a significant statement to the market that they're committed to providing as much liquidity to the market as is needed to get things moving again," he said.
But the dollar was hammered by the Fed's aggressive moves, which are seen as highly inflationary and market distorting. Dan Cook, senior market analyst for IG Markets, said the range of commitments could eventually put stress on the U.S. budget and the central bank's balance sheet. "This debt could be tough to service after a while; we didn't hear about an exit plan," Cook said.
Others suggested the dollar selloff is a sign of improved risk appetite, as the U.S. currency also fell against emerging market currencies.
The euro surged to $1.3472, its highest levels since Jan. 9, from $1.3109 just ahead of the meeting. The dollar was at Y96.16 recently, down from Y98.11.
The Fed's efforts so far to keep credit flowing to the broader economy have been successful in reopening some markets, but financing conditions overall remain tight. Highly-rated, cash-rich companies can tap the debt markets, but weaker companies have less access.
Mortgage rates have fallen substantially since the Fed launched a plan to purchase up to $600 billion in mortgage-related debt, yet many homeowners can't take advantage of the lower rates because house prices have collapsed, meaning they owe more on their home than it is worth.
Yet the mortgage bond market's response to the Fed's announcement was muted, given that investors had expected to see the Fed expand its mortgage-related purchase program.
Credit markets improved on the back of the FOMC's announcement, but Dwayne Moyers, portfolio manager at SMH Capital Advisors cautioned that nothing has changed.
"All is not good with the world yet," he said. "There's a lot of structural and fundamental problems still around. You have bounces off bear markets and right now that's what we're in," Moyers said.
How successful these new measures will be in restoring the flow of credit to the broader economy remains to be seen. Other central banks are pursuing government debt purchases in their attempts to ward off persistently falling prices and help stimulate credit growth. The Bank of England has already held three auctions to buy back longer-dated debt and U.K. yields have plunged. Nonetheless, lower-rated companies in the U.K. remain mostly shut out of public debt markets, while mortgage lending standards continue to tighten even as overall rates have fallen.
The Fed has placed considerable weight on its consumer lending support program, the Term Asset-Backed Securities Lending Facility, which is being launched this week. Investors have until Thursday to apply for cheap loans to purchase securities backed by consumer loans, and already two auto-loan backed deals worth over $4 billion have been announced that are eligible for such funding.

Dear Trader,

FOMC rate decision tomorrow. Market is trading at the top of the range trying to make up it's mind if to break higher or retreat back....

As I mentioned many times before, be very careful during the 15 minutes before rate decision and at least 45 minutes after as market can be tricky and volatile.

Futures Trading levels and Economic reports for March 17th

*To be removed, please reply with remove daytrading in subject line

Dear Trader,

Market consolidated after the run of the last few days and gave up earlier gains to finish un changed. So far not a bad bounce from the lows made March 6th but to convince me this bear market rally has more legs, I would like to see 788 taken out, otherwise I will watch support at 738.

In between you have 50 SP points, which we can consider a "range" and while 50 SP points did NOT use to be a large amount, now days, 50 points are about 7% ....

Good Trading!
