As seen in the chart below, the March 2013 10-Year T-Note Futures are displaying low volatility as measured by the 10-day ADX reading below twenty-five. In addition, the asset has in a clearly defined range-bound market since the beginning of the year with 132’00 acting as resistance and 131’00 serving as support. Although the recent trend has been lower and therefore favors a breakout to the downside we subscribe to the motto, “don’t anticipate, just participate” and therefore favor bracketing the market with buy stops at 132’00 and sell stops at 131’00. Whichever side gets filled, the other will act as our intial catastrophic stop-loss level.
That stated, once the market achieves an unrealized gain of 13.5 ticks (which was the 10-day ATR as of 2/21/13 settlement), we favor taking partial profits and moving stops to breakeven on the remainder of the position.
Weissman Signals is a daily newsletter offering short-term (two to ten day) trend-following and counter-trend trading recommendations to the institutional and retail speculative trading communities.
