General:<\/strong>\u00a0Albeit a lurching progression, as it\u2019s coming out of the first quarter, China\u2019s Post-Covid recovery looks to be gaining traction \u2013 arguably more so than here in the U.S. \u2013 if their trade balance numbers are a good yardstick.\u00a0Data released early last week showed a meaningfully-above-consensus $88.2 billion surplus, including a year-over-year 14.8% increase in exports (its first YOY gain in six months) and a stout 28% monthly increase in crude oil<\/a> imports (12.3 million barrels per day) over February.\u00a0Iron ore and coal imports also showed considerable month-over month gains.\u00a0We keep an eye on this country\u2019s economic health because it accounts for \u00b118% – almost a fifth of the world\u2019s GDP, second to the U.S. at \u00b125%.\u00a0The next 10 countries combined, including Japan, Germany, the U.K., India, Canada and South Korea account for another \u00b130%.<\/p>\n

With their economies in competition with each other, further recovery for China against the U.S.\u2019s current grind to control inflation and stave off a recession \u2013 even the slightest of one \u2013 puts pressure on the dollar, now \u00b16 months in decline from its 20-year highs.\u00a0This bodes well for physical commodities such as copper<\/a>, crude oil<\/a> grains and soy complex markets.\u00a0Keep an eye on the world economic picture \u2013 particularly China\u2019s journey to recovery \u2013 to provide guidance for your trades.<\/p>\n
