As of this typing, Federal Reserve Board Chairman Jerome Powell just wrapped up testifying\u00a0before the House Financial Services Committee.\u00a0Tomorrow he\u2019ll testify in front of the Senate Banking Committee.\u00a0These congressional appearances come on the heels of last week\u2019s FOMC meeting where the central bank decided not to raise interest rates for the first time in eleven meetings.\u00a0The key take-away: while inflation has eased \u2013 to just above 5% \u2013 the campaign to see inflation back to the bank\u2019s 2% target \u201chas a long way to go.\u201d\u00a0Moving at a pace that includes holding steady at this point, the chairman explained,\u00a0will give policymakers time to analyze how higher rates are working to slow the economy.<\/p>\n

Agricultural<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Starting June 1, after a \u00b1 two-month \/ \u00b1$2.00 price drop to below $13\/bushel, July Soybeans<\/a> have soared to today\u2019s $15.19\u00bd \/ bushel closing price, a \u00b1$10,000 per contract move in 14 trade sessions.\u00a0July corn prices<\/a> started their lift-off a couple of weeks earlier and they\u2019ve gained \u00b1$2.00 \/ bushel \u2013 another \u00b1$10,000 move \u2013 as well, as of today\u2019s close of trading.\u00a0U.S. crop conditions continue to worsen according to recent reports and forecasts for waves of cooler, wetter fronts returning and traversing a large area of the U.S. growing region into this weekend have been almost completely discounted.<\/p>\n

Metals<\/strong><\/p>\n

Aug. gold<\/a> traded to 3-month lows today, touching $1929.30 \/ oz. intraday, continuing a \u00b1month and half slide from its spike high above $$2,100 ounce on May 4th.<\/p>\n

Softs<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Sugar (basis July)<\/a> remained near \u00b112-yr highs around 25 cents \/ pound, but has remained choppy since its first foray to these highs back in April.\u00a0Traders keep an eye on news related to Indian and Brazilian cane crop development in these important growing regions, particularly as the monsoon season approaches as this will provide guidance to this year\u2019s crop development.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
