You can\u2019t keep a good index down.\u00a0 When the stock price of a member of the Magnificent Seven Stocks \u2013 artificial-intelligence chip leader Nvidia\u00a0\u2013 advances 15% for the day on its quarterly earnings report and the company\u2019s market cap. approaches $2-Trillion, it moves the stock indexes of which it is a component – the\u00a0Nasdaq 100<\/strong>\u00a0and the\u00a0S&P 500.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Their related futures contracts lead the way with the S&P 500 claiming its largest daily increase in months \u2013 over 105 points at this typing \u2013 to new all-time highs for the contract, pushing over 5,100.\u00a0 The\u00a0<\/a>E-mini Nasdaq<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0advanced \u00b1550 points over 18,000 and the\u00a0E-mini Dow Jones<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>added over \u00b1500 points to set its own new all-time high near 39,200.<\/p>\n

Not to be outdone, Japan\u2019s main stock index, the\u00a0Nikkei 225<\/strong>, closed at its own new all-time high above 39,000, a level it set 34 years ago before the country fell into the doldrums of a deflationary economy.\u00a0 In fact, the Nikkei has been the world’s best-performing major index in 2024, surging \u00b117.5% only two months into the year and trouncing the impressive \u00b15% advance of the\u00a0S&P 500<\/a><\/strong>.\u00a0 Ironically, Japan is still amidst a recession and just fell behind Germany to the no. 4 spot among the world\u2019s leading economies.<\/p>\n

After a week-long \u00b1$50 break to below $2,000\/oz. intraday on Feb. 14,\u00a0April gold<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0recovered \u00b1$30 and has stayed rangebound over the last few trading sessions as the minutes of the Fed\u2019s late-January meeting released yesterday showed that the bank was in no hurry to begin cutting interest rates.<\/p>\n

Signs of production declines sent\u00a0natural gas futures<\/a>\u00a0contracts into rally mode this week with the front month March contract seeing a \u00b120-cent increase off its life-of-contract\u00a0lows \u2013 a \u00b1$2,000 move.\u00a0 U.S. exploration and production company Chesapeake Energy\u00a0signaled it plans to reduce its natural gas production this year by roughly 30% given extremely low prices.<\/p>\n
