| Expected to leave key rates unchanged
– Maintain Main Refinancing Rate at 0.00% What the News Desk Says ( www.TradeTheNews.com ) The ECB governing council is likely to keep its policy unchanged despite a steady improvement on the inflation front (being dictated primarily by energy prices). Analysts note that the December inflation surge should not shift the ECB message as headline inflation was increasing quite substantially but core inflation was not. Some German officials have been campaigning for the ECB to start tightening policy, but the majority of the Council still believes that such calls are premature. As 2017 progresses the debate is likely to shift as the threat of deflation recedes and the inflation rate rises in coming months, but nothing new is expected at this first policy meeting of the year…. more |
