Fed Raises Interest Rates .25%

fed

The Fed delivered the widely anticipated 25-basis-point rate hike on Wednesday, lifting the federal funds target range to 3.75%-4.00% and maintaining a hawkish stance as inflation remains above the central bank’s target.

Futures

Futures markets reacted with increased volatility, with stock index futures moving lower and energy markets retreating sharply, while bond futures found support as investors evaluated the implications of a higher-for-longer interest rate environment. The mixed action across commodities highlights an ongoing divergence between sectors, with softs showing pockets of strength while metals and energy struggled.

Traders will now turn their focus to Thursday’s slate of economic data, particularly jobless claims and housing indicators, for additional insight into whether economic growth is cooling enough to alter the Fed’s trajectory in the months ahead.

December Coffee

The rally in December Coffee ran out of steam last month shy of its third upside PriceCount objective. On the correction, the chart gapped lower and activated downside counts too. Now, we are satisfying the first objective today where it would be normal to get a near term reaction from this level in the form of a consolidation or corrective trade.

The PriceCount study is a tool that can help to project the distance of a move in price. The counts are not intended to be an ‘exact’ science but rather offer a target area for the four objectives which are based off the first leg of a move with each subsequent count having a smaller percentage of being achieved.

It is normal for the chart to react by correcting or consolidating at an objective and then either resuming its move or reversing trend. Best utilized in conjunction with other technical tools, PriceCounts offer one more way to analyze charts and help to manage your positions and risk.
