It’s that time of the year where June contract is the front month for all stock indices/ currencies/ financials and other markets!
Rollover!!
Tomorrow we have FOMC.
Normally the volatility is around the actual rate cut/increase….This time it is 99.99% of no change. Language in the statement will be the main feature.
However, FOMC days do have unique behavior and this time my guess is, it will be around the language used after the announcement.
The following are my PERSONAL suggestions on trading during FOMC days:
· Reduce trading size
· Be extra picky = no trade is better than a bad trade
· Choose entry points wisely. Look at longer time frame support and resistance for entry. Take the approach of entering at points where you normally would have placed protective stops. Example, trader x looking to go long the mini SP at 3925.00 with a stop at 3919.00, instead “stretch the price bands” due to volatility and place an entry order to buy at 3919.75 and place a stop a few points below in this hypothetical example ( consider current volatility along with support and resistance levels).
· Expect the higher volatility during and right after the announcement
· Expect to see some “vacuum” ( low volume, big zigzags) right before the number.
· Consider using automated stops and limits attached to your entry order as the market can move very fast at times.
· Keep in mind statement comes out at 1 Pm Central time, the news conference which dissects the language comes out 30 minutes later so the volatility window stretches out.
· Know what the market was expecting, learn what came out and observe market reaction for clues
· Be patient and be disciplined
· If in doubt, stay out!!

The different pulse of the markets on different days makes a big difference. The strategies used on fast and volatile market may not work when the same market is choppy and quieter. I think that maybe there are some rare strategies that will work in all market environments but I have never seen one yet….So be aware of how the market/ markets you are trading are acting.
What type of action did the overnight session had?
How did the first 30 minutes of primary session went ( in markets like stock index futures where the underlying asset, i.e. stocks, just opened)?
Does it seem like the day ahead will be one of those speedy, crazy type of price action? or perhaps choppy? possibly a trending day?
Certain strategies will work better. Know what weapons in your trading arsenal will work better in what type of market conditions and try to adjust accordingly.

We started the week exactly where we left off….High, erratic type of volatility. It started on the open Sunday night and did not stop all the way through the session.
When markets move that fast, one way you may want to explore is trading very short term options rather than futures.
Example: You think the SP500 ( ES or MES) are going down today. If you use futures and place a “normal stop” most chances today is that you would have gotten stopped out. A possible alternative to explore is to use the Monday expiration mini SP options. If you buy a put, your risk in that specific example is limited to premium + cost of trade.
You will have MUCH better staying power and a chance to profit if you are correct.
This is obviously a very simple, briefly explained example but our series 3 brokers will be happy to expand, answer questions and review the + and _ of diff. strategies.
One last note about the options, at times activity on options can be used as another possible signal. Example, market is rallying but the closer to the money puts are actually gaining value? that is a sign that there is additional demand and possible pressure lower.

Trading 101: Five Fatal Flaws of Trading
Why Do Traders Lose?
From our friend Senior Analyst Jeffrey Kennedy. Eliott Wave
If you’ve been trading for a long time, you no doubt have felt that a monstrous, invisible hand sometimes reaches into your trading account and takes out money. It doesn’t seem to matter how many books you buy, how many seminars you attend or how many hours you spend analyzing price charts, you just can’t seem to prevent that invisible hand from depleting your trading account funds.
Which brings us to the question: Why do traders lose? Or maybe we should ask, ‘How do you stop the Hand?’ Whether you are a seasoned professional or just thinking about opening your first trading account, the ability to stop the Hand is proportional to how well you understand and overcome the Five Fatal Flaws of trading. For each fatal flaw represents a finger on the invisible hand that wreaks havoc with your trading account.
Fatal Flaw No. 1 – Lack of Methodology
If you aim to be a consistently successful trader, then you must have a defined trading methodology, which is simply a clear and concise way of looking at markets. Guessing or going by gut instinct won’t work over the long run. If you don’t have a defined trading methodology, then you don’t have a way to know what constitutes a buy or sell signal. Moreover, you can’t even consistently correctly identify the trend.
How to overcome this fatal flaw? Answer: Write down your methodology. Define in writing what your analytical tools are and, more importantly, how you use them. It doesn’t matter whether you use the Wave Principle, Point and Figure charts, Stochastics, RSI or a combination of all of the above. What does matter is that you actually take the effort to define it (i.e., what constitutes a buy, a sell, your trailing stop and instructions on exiting a position). And the best hint I can give you regarding developing a defined trading methodology is this: If you can’t fit it on the back of a business card, it’s probably too complicated.
Fatal Flaw No. 2 — Lack of Discipline
When you have clearly outlined and identified your trading methodology, then you must have the discipline to follow your system. A Lack of Discipline in this regard is the second fatal flaw. If the way you view a price chart or evaluate a potential trade setup is different from how you did it a month ago, then you have either not identified your methodology or you lack the discipline to follow the methodology you have identified. The formula for success is to consistently apply a proven methodology. So the best advice I can give you to overcome a lack of discipline is to define a trading methodology that works best for you and follow it religiously.

Market moving event that comes out at 7:30 AM central time.
Markets have been moving EXTREMELY FAST. I was watching price action in the NQ, Copper, Crude oil and few more and the velocity of the price moves was something I have not seen since last March when COVID started.
I Personally feel that if you are trading some of these very volatile markets you should have the STOP order attached to your entry. At times I have seen the NQ move over 60 points in less than 15 seconds….
Understand that with this volatility he BANDS get wider. I don’t see how anyone can make money if they are only use 2 points stop on the ES unless they have a crystal ball…..
If you feel over stressed because of volatility, consider reducing trading size, perhaps trading MICROS rather than the minis.
Remember to breath while trading. Try to have the full trading plan before you pull the trigger.
