FOMC Tomorrow:
According to CME Group’s FedWatch tool, the chance for a rate cut on Wednesday dropped from 23.3% on Friday to 17.5% Monday and back to 24.2% today!!
The market will certainly be paying attention to the language, even in the absence of a cut.
The following are my PERSONAL suggestions on trading during FOMC days:
·    Reduce trading size
·    Be extra picky = no trade is better than a bad trade
·    Choose entry points wisely. Look at longer time frame support and resistance for entry. Take the approach of entering at points where you normally would have placed protective stops. Example, trader x looking to go long the mini SP at 2925.00 with a stop at 2919.00, instead “stretch the price bands” due to volatility and place an entry order to buy at 2919.75 and place a stop a few points below in this hypothetical example ( consider current volatility along with support and resistance levels).
·    Expect the higher volatility during and right after the announcement
·    Expect to see some “vacuum” ( low volume, big zigzags) right before the number.
·    Consider using automated stops and limits attached to your entry order as the market can move very fast at times.
·    Know what the market was expecting, learn what came out and observe market reaction for clues
·    Be patient and be disciplined
·    If in doubt, stay out!!

Which Market is Right for you?

So you got a taste of the markets and trading and now you are getting more involved, excited and looking to progress. Many questions ahead for you as a trader and as time progresses you will evolve and find out if trading is suitable for you and if so what type of trading, what type of risk capital and other questions that will come up. Many of these will appear as you progress and your knowledge increase. Some of these questions need to be answered before you start trading.
1. How much risk capital do I have?
2. What markets do I want to trade?
3. What style of trading do I want to employ?
The answer to question 1 will vary for each trader based on their financial situation but the bottom line is, make sure you trade with money you can afford to lose.
The answer to question 2 has a few levels: First is what asset class are you looking to trade? Stocks/ equities? perhaps FOREX or maybe futures? Since my area of expertise is futures, commodities and future options I would like to expand on this asset class.
The answer to question 3 deserves a post of it’s own….
Trading futures offers many advantages as well as some drawbacks. For many traders who prefer to day trade ( you enter and exit the position during the same session and avoid holding positions from one day to another), trading futures is a great alternative to day trading stocks. In stocks you need to have minimum of $25,000 to day-trade. In futures you only need $2500. The build in leverage in the futures market, intensified by the even more so reduced day trading margins, creates a double edge sword: Small moves can translate into big wins in your pocket BUT small moves against you will also translate into big losses in your account….

Rollover Notice for Stock Index Futures
Important notice: For those of you trading any stock index futures contracts, i.e., the E-mini S&P, E-mini NASDAQ, E-mini Dow Jones etc., it is extremely important to remember that we are now rolling over and trading the September 2019 contract.
Starting June 13th, the September 2019 futures contracts will be the front month contracts. It is recommended that all new positions be placed in the September 2019 contract as of June 13th.
Volume in the June 2019 contracts will begin to drop off until its expiration on Friday June 21st.
The month code for September is U19
In between, 30 min chart of the mini NASDAQ for your review below, on the short term, market can decline some more if we stay below the 7500 level.

Many of my clients and blog readers know that when it comes to short term trading I am a fan of adjusting your trading technique/ game plan according to your assessment of the type of trading day that is developing in front of you.
Many new and advanced traders spend HOURS on looking for entry signals. Back testing historical data, creating algorithms to use and much more. I know. I am one of these traders.
Trade management consists of many factors. Some are psychological and some are more mathematical and many are in between. Some of the basic elements of trade management before even entering the trade are: What will my stop loss be**? will i use a stop loss**? What will my target be? will I use a target or just trail the trade if it goes my way?

Are you tired of day-trading and getting stopped out?
  1. As a hedge, no need for stops
  2. As a pure speculation. A relatively inexpensive way to speculate on market direction in a time frame that can be for minutes, hours or a few days without the need to use stops.
Briefly, the definition of an option contract from the National Futures Association is: An investment vehicle which gives the option buyer the right—but not the obligation—to buy or sell a particular futures contract at a stated price at the specified expiration date. There are two separate and distinct types of options: calls and puts. These weekly options are European Style, Exercisable to the nearest futures contract at 3pm Central time on Friday. If in the money by any amount, the exercise is automatic.
