Quarter-End Trading Spotlight: September 30

Gold & Silver

Gold

Tomorrow marks not only the final trading day of September but also the last day of the third quarter, a period that often brings increased volatility as institutional traders, fund managers, and portfolio rebalancing activity can create larger-than-normal market moves.

Economic Calendar Updates

Futures traders should keep a close eye on a packed economic calendar, highlighted by ADP Non-Farm Employment Change, Core PCE Inflation, Final GDP, Personal Income and Spending data, Chicago PMI, and Crude Oil Inventories.

In addition, several FOMC members are scheduled to speak throughout the day, potentially adding to intraday volatility.

From a market perspective, recent trends show strength in stock index futures, grains, bitcoin, and livestock, while energy markets have come under pressure, with crude oil and natural gas posting sharp declines.

Precious Metals/Gold & Silver

Precious metals remain firm, with both gold and silver maintaining longer-term uptrends. As quarter-end positioning combines with key economic releases, traders should be prepared for potentially sharp price swings, wider ranges, and increased volume across multiple futures markets.

Risk management and disciplined trade execution may be especially important heading into the new quarter.

December Wheat

December Wheat satisfied the first downside PriceCount objective and is trying to stabilize with a short-term consolidation trade. If the chart can resume its break with new sustained lows, the second count would project a possible slide to the $6.45 area.

The PriceCount study is a tool that can help to project the distance of a move in price. The counts are not intended to be an ‘exact’ science but rather offer a target area for the four objectives which are based off the first leg of a move with each subsequent count having a smaller percentage of being achieved.

It is normal for the chart to react by correcting or consolidating at an objective and then either resuming its move or reversing trend. Best utilized in conjunction with other technical tools, PriceCounts offer one more way to analyze charts and help to manage your positions and risk.
