Thank You, Mark O’Brien

After more than 34 years in the futures industry, including over three decades with Cannon Trading, Mark O’Brien has announced his retirement.

Mark joined Cannon Trading in November 1992 and has been a trusted broker, advisor, and advocate for his clients ever since. Throughout his career, he earned the confidence and respect of countless traders by combining deep market knowledge with professionalism, integrity, and a genuine commitment to helping clients navigate the futures markets.

Over the years, Mark witnessed and adapted to extraordinary changes in the industry. He began his career in an era when orders were handwritten on carbon paper tickets and communicated to exchange floor clerks by phone. He retires in a world of sophisticated electronic trading platforms where orders can be executed with a single click in milliseconds. Through every technological advancement and market cycle, Mark remained dedicated to serving his clients with the same care and attention that became the hallmark of his career.

His journey also coincided with some of the most remarkable moments in market history, from record highs in commodities and stock indexes to historic events such as the negative settlement of the May 2020 WTI crude oil futures contract. Yet what stands out most is not the markets he witnessed, but the relationships he built and the trust he earned along the way.

Mark is also leaving behind a professional legacy that reflects the highest standards of the futures industry. After more than three decades as a broker, he retires with a spotless regulatory record, a testament to the integrity and responsibility that defined his work every day.

While we will certainly miss Mark’s experience, insight, and friendship, we want to assure our clients and future clients that they will continue to be in excellent hands. Cannon Trading’s team of experienced brokers and support professionals remains committed to delivering the same high level of service, attention, and expertise that our clients have come to expect. We are confident that the strong relationships Mark helped build will continue to thrive under the care of our dedicated brokerage team.

On behalf of everyone at Cannon Trading, we extend our sincere gratitude to Mark for his years of service, leadership, and unwavering commitment to our clients and our company. His contributions have left a lasting impact on Cannon Trading and on the many traders whose journeys he was privileged to be a part of.

Mark, thank you for an exceptional career, for the trust you inspired, and for representing Cannon Trading with professionalism and integrity for more than three decades. We wish you a happy, healthy, and fulfilling retirement and all the best in the exciting chapter ahead.

What Futures Traders Should Watch This Week

By John Thorpe, Senior Broker

nfp

We have everything needed to move the market next week as we do expect increased volatility from Government data releases, especially NFP (Non-Farm Payrolls) Friday, September 4th.

This, in addition to the lasting uncertainty in the Middle East.

It should be a very volatile week as we near the end of summertime trading with 1 week to go before the Labor Day weekend and the official end to Summertime activities. The next OPEC and non-OPEC ministerial meeting is scheduled for September 6th.

OPEC

OPEC meetings are attended by representatives from 13 oil-rich nations. They discuss a range of topics regarding energy markets and agree on how much oil they will produce. OPEC is responsible for nearly 40% of the world’s oil supply. As for earnings to stimulate the market, we are hard pressed to find any significant reports other than Broadcom, Wednesday after the close.

Is the smoke clearing in the Mid-East and the markets have a renewed sense of confidence?

The energy’s, metals, securities and interest rates are swirling in the uncertainty from a lack of resolution in the attempted unwinding of the Iranian nuclear program.

Don’t let your guard down just yet, the fog continues, tune into the Sunday evening markets to witness reactions to the weekend news streams, manufactured or true.

Futures 102: The Daily Briefing by Cannon

Every morning, the world’s biggest banks and macro strategists publish where markets are headed. The rest of the world waits for the headline.

That intelligence stays locked inside trading desks, institutional terminals, and private client portals — accessible only to the few who pay for the privilege, and even they only get what they pay for.

This briefing changes that ( 100% FREE on Cannon’s website!!). Every morning we scour the open web and aggregate everything that matters — pulling from publicly available sources so you never have to — and distill it into one clear, readable edition you can get through before your first coffee is finished.

No terminals. No subscriptions. No private portals. Just everything the market is saying, gathered in one place, every morning before the bell.

December Meal

December Meal satisfied its second upside PriceCount objective that is consistent with a challenge of the fall high. It would be normal to get a rear term reaction from this level in the form of a consolidation or corrective trade. IF the chart can sustain further strength, the third count would project a possible run to the $361 area.

The PriceCount study is a tool that can help to project the distance of a move in price. The counts are not intended to be an ‘exact’ science but rather offer a target area for the four objectives which are based off the first leg of a move with each subsequent count having a smaller percentage of being achieved.

It is normal for the chart to react by correcting or consolidating at an objective and then either resuming its move or reversing trend. Best utilized in conjunction with other technical tools, PriceCounts offer one more way to analyze charts and help to manage your positions and risk.
