Friday Futures Trading Preview: Drought and Jackson Hole in Focus

trading

Markets head into Friday with attention turning to both weather developments and central bank commentary.

Equity, Gold, Silver Futures

In the financial sector, U.S. equity futures remain near record highs, while crude oil continued its advance, gaining more than 2% on Thursday. Gold and silver also held firm, reflecting ongoing investor interest in hard assets.

AGs

For agriculture, the latest USDA drought data shows worsening conditions across several major crops. Areas experiencing moderate drought or worse increased for soybeans, cotton, wheat, rice, and sorghum. The trend could continue to support weather-sensitive grain and oilseed markets if forecasts remain unfavorable.

Soybean

Soybeans closed slightly higher and continue to hold a positive technical trend. Cotton was among Thursday’s strongest agricultural performers, gaining more than 3%, while wheat also posted solid gains.

Important Dates

Friday’s economic calendar features several European inflation releases, U.S. Chicago PMI data, a preliminary benchmark payroll revision, and comments from Federal Reserve officials. The Jackson Hole Symposium will remain a key focus for traders looking for clues on future monetary policy.

As the week closes, traders will be watching whether drought concerns can provide additional support for agricultural markets while broader financial markets react to Fed-related headlines.

December Meal

December Meal satisfied its second upside PriceCount objective that is consistent with a challenge of the fall high. It would be normal to get a rear term reaction from this level in the form of a consolidation or corrective trade. IF the chart can sustain further strength, the third count would project a possible run to the $361 area.

The PriceCount study is a tool that can help to project the distance of a move in price. The counts are not intended to be an ‘exact’ science but rather offer a target area for the four objectives which are based off the first leg of a move with each subsequent count having a smaller percentage of being achieved.

It is normal for the chart to react by correcting or consolidating at an objective and then either resuming its move or reversing trend. Best utilized in conjunction with other technical tools, PriceCounts offer one more way to analyze charts and help to manage your positions and risk.
