Getting Clues from other markets?

When day-trading a specific market do you only look at the chart for that specific market? maybe you took it a step further and you are viewing multiple time frame charts for the same market which is a good step in my eyes.

Now lets take this even one step further by observing what markets have correlation, direct or inverse to the market you are trading, perhaps this can help you make decisions when trading.

I will give a few examples from my experience:
When I am in a position in the mini SP 500, I will often observe what the bonds are doing ( many times inverse correlation), I will take notice of what the Dow, Russell and NASDAQ are doing as well ( direct correlation)

If I am trading crude oil, I will many times pay attention to what unleaded gas and heating oil are doing (very close, although not direct correlation) as well as what WTI crude is doing.

Tomorrow is the last trading day for January 2016.
We also have quite a bit of economic numbers to watch for.
An example I like to share from my trading journal is regarding trading the 30 year bonds. my notes say that usually on the last trading day of the month, bonds will have some very big moves during the 15:45 to 14:00 central time which corresponds to the close of the pit session. Go back in your 10 minute charts and see what bonds do on the last trading day of the month towards the close of the pit session.

Global Gloom is Raising Eyebrows at the Federal Reserve.

 At the end of its two-day meeting Wednesday, the U.S. central bank acknowledged that the U.S. economy lost momentum at the end of 2015.

“Economic growth slowed late last year,” the Fed’s committee said in its statement, noting that the job market had improved.
U.S. stocks didn’t react well to the Fed’s statement. The Dow, which was up about 10 points before the release, dropped down 230 points points after the Fed’s announcement.
In a widely expected decision, the Fed’s committee also decided not to raise its key interest rate. Just a month ago, in December, the Fed raised rates for the first time in nearly a decade.
Despite its worries, the Fed stopped short of saying that the volatility in January will change its plans to raise rates at least four times for the rest of 2016. The committee noted that it’s “monitoring global economic and financial developments.”

The FOMC interest rate decision is due at 2:15 ET in the US tomorrow ( Wednesday, Jan. 27th ). Also more than a few economic numbers ahead of the announcement.

FOMC days have different characteristics than other trading days. If you have traded for a while, check your trading notes from past FOMC days that may help you prepare for tomorrow.

If you are a newcomer, take a more conservative approach and make sure you understand that the news can really move the market.
