Volatility is skyrocketing. This is a completely different environment for trading than you were in 3-4 weeks ago. Markets are evolving and you must adapt your trading to changing market conditions.

This is where you find out if the gambler in you is stronger than the trader in you or vise versa…..If the trader is the strong one, you will REDUCE trading size, become extra picky in your entries , perhaps even decide not to trade at certain times….If the gambler is the dominant one…you will find yourself all over the place up huge, down huge and I am sorry to say sooner or later you will blow up…..

Think about it and try help the trader within win over the gambler that resides in the same neighborhood…..

One additional note, dont be GREEDY….set daily profit target and daily loss limit and stick to it. that can be the difference between you surviving to trade another day OR……

On a different note, please pay attention to LIMIT moves and understand what happens when the market is halting at limit levels:

Walk before you run

By Cannon Trading staff

The image of a successful futures trader is that of a lone wolf surveying the landscape looking for an opportunity to attack and seize quick and substantial profits. We all know about the potential for making a fortune in the futures markets. Yet, few do so. Why is that? What are some of the common pitfalls that prevent this dream from becoming a reality for most traders?

One of the most prevalent misconceptions for inexperienced traders is that they believe themselves to be smarter than the rest of the market participants. They under estimate the qualifications and abilities of the rest of the futures markets professionals. This business of trading is dominated by very dedicated, resourceful professionals who have invested lots of time and assets into their pursuit of trading profits. Competing against these seasoned professionals is not impossible but going it alone, especially initially, is usually not the most prudent course of action for new traders.

Trading the futures markets using a trading system provides the discipline to overcome the fear and greed that in many cases paralyzes a trader and prevents them from making timely and unbiased decisions. Each order placed is governed by a pre-determined set of rules that does not deviate based on anything other than the market action.

Cannon Trading offers diversified array of completely automated futures trading systems.  These Futures Trading systems are fully-automated trading programs able to execute orders at high-speeds following trading algorithms created by the trading system developer. Here is some futures market insight from our Senior Broker, Joe Easton:

When Trading Markets around reports, having stop and limit orders in advance can be imperative due to the speed of the move can be faster than your finger can click.

Additionally, it is more important to have a plan in advance and levels to use while managing your trade.  By turning off the 24 hour function on the chart and showing only RTH (regular trading hours)  You can see how the spike low of 2031 was the same exact price as yesterday’s opening print.  This small tip can help weed out the Globex noise.

Here is some futures market insight from our Senior Broker, Jack Engin of today’s market action:

There is a muffled mix of excitement and tempered anxiety in the air surrounding all of the markets ahead of the FOMC’s all-important announcement tomorrow.

Our Vice President, Ilan Levy-Mayer, has in the past, issued sound and, in my opinion, paramount advice for trading on FOMC days; please heed his warnings below:

FOMC days have different characteristics than other trading days. If you have traded for a while, check your trading notes from past FOMC days that may help you prepare for tomorrow.

if you are a newcomer, take a more conservative approach and make sure you understand that the news can really move the market.
