Greetings!

Quadruple witching tomorrow!

Not that we needed any extra events for higher volatility…Markets went from extremely low volatility to much expanded volatility….

Personally I don’t have a feel for near term direction of stock indices as the markets been making some large moves on a daily basis with no real direction so far….I guess if Nasdaq breaks the all time highs, it may  be a clue….

Trade with confidence, Trade with a plan, Trade with discipline!

Hello Traders,

Greetings!

Do I hold on for the “big winner” or take small profits?

To start with, this is a good problem…this means you are taking some winning trades. The answer is not a simple yes or no.

One must have a combination of both smaller, consistent winners. Also a few “runners” large profit trades, regardless if you are day trading, position trading or swing trading.

Some traders solve the problem by breaking their trading size into more than just 1 unit.

Entering Multiple Contracts: Philosophy

I think that entering multiple contracts does 3 good things for you…

Reduces fear…

Reduces greed…

And gives you a chance to hang in there for the large winners or what I call a “runner”….

Hello Traders,

Few ways to enter a trade….

There are so many different aspects to trading.

From financial, emotional aspects to actual details of when to enter a trade, when to exit a trade and SO MUCH more in between…..

An important part of trading is trade entry. Assuming a trader knows why he/ she about to enter a trade the next step sounds simple right? Simply buy or sell the contract you wish to trade….

Many times it is that simple; depending on the time frame you are trading you may simply buy @ market and get the market price at that time. Some traders try to make small profits where every tick counts hence they may use the “buy bid” or “sell ask” button in order to get in at the best market price at that time. Many times you may save a tick by doing so but other times you may find yourself chasing the bid or the ask…

Hello Traders,

Much has been written about the vote in the UK to exit or stay with the European Union, “BREXIT”.

The voting begins at 7AM (UK) and closes at 10PM (UK) on Thursday June 23.

We expect this to create some extreme volatility in many markets for the next few days and encourage all of you to  be aware and use conservative approach rather than aggressive approach.

A quick article/outlook with chart I wrote for Equities.com

https://www.equities.com/news/the-million-dollar-question-the-british-pound-and-brexit

While some of our platforms will maintain normal day trading margins, other platforms will require higher day trading margins over the next few days.

Most markets will require 100% of the overnight margins for day trading as well with some markets like currencies may even require 200%. This will not affect our clients trading with transactAT or Shogun at this time.

Feel free to call us at 800-454-9572 with any questions. Continue reading “BREXIT May Create Extreme Volatility 6.23.2016”

Hello Traders,

For 2016 I would like to wish all of you discipline and patience in your trading!

Voted #1 futures trading blog!

Strong trend day today on both indices going up and gold going down, prompts me to share a piece I have shared in the past about recognizing the different type of trading days (both markets above experienced type 2 trading day today):

  • My opinion is that there are 3 main types of trading days.
    1. Most common is two sided trading action with swings up and down – this type of trading day is most suitable for using support and resistance levels along with overbought /oversold indicators.
    2. Strong trending day, mostly one directional – this type of trading day is the least common, many times will happen on Mondays and maybe 3-5 times a month at most – this type of trading day is most suitable for using ADX, MACD crossovers and pretty much looking for pullbacks to jump on the trend
    3. Slow and/ or choppy trading day – this type of trading day is best suited for taking small profits from the market by looking at volume spikes, using stochastics as possible entry signals and usually wait for a pullback before jumping in. Many times, no trading is better than bad trading during these type of trading days….
  • Good question is how can one asses what type of trading day we will have while the market is still trading….I am doing some work about it and will be happy to hear feedback via email but here are some initial observations:
    1. Was the overnight session a wide, two sided trading range? If the answer is yes, good chances for similar trading day during the primary session ( primary session is when the cash/ stock market is open)
    2. Mondays have the highest chance for trending days
    3. The behavior of the first hour of trading can also suggests the type of action for the rest of the day.
    4. If the first 30 minutes have good volume, better chances for type 1 or type 2 trading days.
    5. low volume during first 30 minutes can suggest a choppy (type 3 trading day)
