September is front month now for most futures contracts.

Stock index futures are more volatile the last 2 weeks than we seen in a while. Many times, this can be a signal of a longer term trend change but the main thing for most of you who are daytraders, is to simply understand and expect higher intraday volatility.  Higher intraday volatility for me = trading smaller size, being more picky in my entry levels and allowing more room than normal for my trades and NOT using very tight stops. Of course, this is my opinion and every trader is different but in general this is what I do when the volatility increases.

Roll-Over Notice for Stock Index Futures

Hello Traders,

Please remember tomorrow is roll-over day for Stock Index Futures.   Please read below for details.

Important notice:

 

For those of you trading any stock index futures contracts, i.e., the E-mini S&P, E-mini NASDAQ, E-mini Dow Jones, as well as any of the “Big” pit-traded stock index futures, it is extremely important to remember that tomorrow, Thursday, June 13th, is rollover day.

 

Starting tomorrow, Thursday June 13th, the September ‘13 futures contracts will be the front month contracts.  It is recommended that all new positions be placed in the September ‘13 contracts as of tomorrow.  Volume in the June ‘13 contracts will begin to drop off until their expiration next Friday, June 21st.

Hello Traders,

For 2013 I would like to wish all of you discipline and patience in your trading! 

 

Big moves in many markets. High volatility. Once again, I am not a fan of entering trades without stops….if you are a day trader and got in the wrong way today on the currencies for example, with out a stop….by the time you were finally able to collect your emotions and thoughts you may have been pretty deep in the hole. So yes, stops will take you out with a loss and sometimes you will get stopped out just to see the market go back your way, but for me personally stops are what prevent traders from “blowing up” and making a small bad day into a terrible day. Expect more volatility tomorrow as we have monthly Non farm Payroll report early in the morning.
