Getting Clues from other markets?

When day-trading a specific market do you only look at the chart for that specific market? maybe you took it a step further and you are viewing multiple time frame charts for the same market which is a good step in my eyes.

Now lets take this even one step further by observing what markets have correlation, direct or inverse to the market you are trading, perhaps this can help you make decisions when trading.

I will give a few examples from my experience:
When I am in a position in the mini SP 500, I will often observe what the bonds are doing ( many times inverse correlation), I will take notice of what the Dow, Russell and NASDAQ are doing as well ( direct correlation)

If I am trading crude oil, I will many times pay attention to what unleaded gas and heating oil are doing (very close, although not direct correlation) as well as what WTI crude is doing.

Hello Traders,

For 2015 I would like to wish all of you discipline and patience in your trading!

Tomorrow is the last trading day for January 2016.
We also have quite a bit of economic numbers to watch for.
An example I like to share from my trading journal is regarding trading the 30 year bonds. my notes say that usually on the last trading day of the month, bonds will have some very big moves during the 15:45 to 14:00 central time which corresponds to the close of the pit session. Go back in your 10 minute charts and see what bonds do on the last trading day of the month towards the close of the pit session.

Hello Traders,

For 2015 I would like to wish all of you discipline and patience in your trading!

Voted #1 futures trading blog!

Volatility is skyrocketing. This is a completely different environment for trading than you were in 3-4 weeks ago. Markets are evolving and you must adapt your trading to changing market conditions.

This is where you find out if the gambler in you is stronger than the trader in you or vise versa…..If the trader is the strong one, you will REDUCE trading size, become extra picky in your entries , perhaps even decide not to trade at certain times….If the gambler is the dominant one…you will find yourself all over the place up huge, down huge and I am sorry to say sooner or later you will blow up…..

Think about it and try help the trader within win over the gambler that resides in the same neighborhood…..

One additional note, dont be GREEDY….set daily profit target and daily loss limit and stick to it. that can be the difference between you surviving to trade another day OR……

On a different note, please pay attention to LIMIT moves and understand what happens when the market is halting at limit levels:

Great article to start your trading in 2016:

Walk before you run

By Cannon Trading staff

The image of a successful futures trader is that of a lone wolf surveying the landscape looking for an opportunity to attack and seize quick and substantial profits. We all know about the potential for making a fortune in the futures markets. Yet, few do so. Why is that? What are some of the common pitfalls that prevent this dream from becoming a reality for most traders?

One of the most prevalent misconceptions for inexperienced traders is that they believe themselves to be smarter than the rest of the market participants. They under estimate the qualifications and abilities of the rest of the futures markets professionals. This business of trading is dominated by very dedicated, resourceful professionals who have invested lots of time and assets into their pursuit of trading profits. Competing against these seasoned professionals is not impossible but going it alone, especially initially, is usually not the most prudent course of action for new traders.
