Financials: The Federal Reserve released the minutes of its September meeting and they signaled that the central bank is locked and loaded to continue with more interest rate hikes heading to year’s end. They remained focused on maintaining their restrictive policy steps in their efforts to quell the inflation still stubbornly intertwined in the U.S. economy. The committee acknowledged that inflation had shown “little sign so far of abating,” and that they “needed to move to, and then maintain, a more restrictive policy stance in order to meet the Committee’s legislative mandate to promote maximum employment and price stability.”
On the economic reports schedule for tomorrow: the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Consumer Price Index Report, which measures the prices paid by consumers for a basket of consumer goods and services.
Softs / Orange Juice: The path of destruction left in Hurricane Ian’s wake didn’t spare Florida’s 6.7 billion dollar citrus industry which reported today that it will see the smallest orange crop in nearly 80 years. The front-month November futures contract traded above $2.00 per pound intraday last Mon. – nearly 50% higher than year-ago prices and stayed near these elevated life-of-contract highs right up into today’s report.
Softs / Cotton: Moving in the opposite direction, Dec. cotton futures recently posted 5-month lows near 82 cents per pound, well off their $1.32/lb. highs of mid-May – a ±$25,000 move for the futures contract. Today’s World Supply & Demand report cited rising U.S. stockpiles and forecast waning global demand to further spur the price decline.

Most retail clients I work with will enter trades either at market or using a limit order (better price than current market price), however, there are times that depending on your trading strategy , entering the trade on a stop order might be better.
Example, you are looking for momentum and making a few ticks and you feel that the current resistance on natural gas is 3.570 and in this hypothetical example the market is trading at 3.550.
You place a buy stop order to enter the market at 3.573 because you want to see the resistance violated and you are looking for possible continuation and follow through if that happens.
If the market does not brake the resistance line in this “educational example”, you don’t get in the trade. If it does, then your buy stop will trigger you long at best market price.
Some traders will take this a step further and use a buy stop/limit. example buy stop 3.573 / limit 3.575 meaning fill me if we break 3.573 but no worse than 3.575. In this case you are willing to “miss the trade” but you know what is your predefined slippage.

Cut Your Losses Short – Quick but important advice by John Thorpe, Senior Broker and ex floor broker:
As Brokers we see too many self directed accounts under stress because losses are allowed to run.
I am not quite sure what the logic is, or even if there is logic attached to the decision to hang on to losing trade Ideas, and many times doubling up or even tripling up on the losing position. Invariably, when there is no more money left, the client is forced out only to see the market finally turn.
One of the traders Jack D. Schwager interviewed for his first Market Wizards book had this quote and a dose of reality.
I tend to cut bad trades as soon as possible, forget them, and then move on to new opportunities. The elements of good trading are: (1) cutting losses, (2) cutting losses, and (3) cutting losses. If you follow these three rules, you may have a chance. – Ed Seykota
