Futures Trading Guide – Levels & Reports for April 11th 2018

Dear Traders,

Read our guide which outlines some important futures day trading concepts. It may be beneficial to read this guide before trading commodities on the futures market.

My name is Ilan Levy-Mayer and I am the Vice President and Senior Futures Broker at Cannon Trading.

I came up with the following personal observations after serving online traders worldwide for more than 20 years.

The following steps are guides to progress, and are not necessarily in sequential order. Some of them are always required, but each futures trader is different and will relate to these stages in their own ways. While attempting to learn and progress, one must keep in mind that futures trading is risky and can involve significant losses.

  1. Education

Hopefully if you are already trading you have completed your initial education: contract specs, trading hours, futures brokers, platforms, the opportunities as well as the risk and need to use risk capital in futures, and so on. Understanding this information is essential to futures commodities trading. The second type of education is ongoing: learning about trading techniques, the evolution of futures markets, different trading tools, and more.

Hello Traders,

Stock index futures have been choppy recently and “counter trend” methods seem to work better than others. That will change once the market breaks down sooner or later and volatility returns.

On the other hand we have markets like gold and crude that make big moves more often than not…just different type of personalities of different markets.

One tool I have been using more and more recently, is the Edge. A daily newsletter published by ExitPoints.com which provides you what markets to pay attention to and WHICH direction to attack that specific market from.

Today they provided me with two good ones, gold from the short side and crude oil from the long side.

If you have not had a trial for this service, I recommend signing up for the FREE TRIAL and then UTILIZING a Cannon broker to get a better feel on how one might use this newsletter and information.

Hello Traders,

For 2016 I would like to wish all of you discipline and patience in your trading!

Greetings!

Trade management is more important than Market Analysis….

I have done this so many times before, my colleagues tell me when it happens to them as well as some of my clients….You have the perfect read on the market. The market actually ends up doing what you thought it would and in a BIG way…yet somehow you manage to LOSE money despite your perfect analysis. To me this is sometimes more frustrating than having a bad losing day.

What happened?

Poor trade management, that’s what happened.

Yes, reading the market well is a much needed quality if you plan on making money rather than contributing donations to the market but more important is how you manage the trade / position once you read the market. Much easier said than done, especially after the fact but here are some tips that I am hoping will assist you in the next time you have a good market read.

Hello Traders,

Getting Clues from other markets?

When day-trading a specific market do you only look at the chart for that specific market? maybe you took it a step further and you are viewing multiple time frame charts for the same market which is a good step in my eyes.

Now lets take this even one step further by observing what markets have correlation, direct or inverse to the market you are trading, perhaps this can help you make decisions when trading.

I will give a few examples from my experience:
When I am in a position in the mini SP 500, I will often observe what the bonds are doing ( many times inverse correlation), I will take notice of what the Dow, Russell and NASDAQ are doing as well ( direct correlation)

If I am trading crude oil, I will many times pay attention to what unleaded gas and heating oil are doing (very close, although not direct correlation) as well as what WTI crude is doing.

Hello Traders,

For 2015 I would like to wish all of you discipline and patience in your trading!

Greetings!

Few pointers for you day-traders out there. I am sure you have heard some from different resources but never hurts to read and absorb this again:

1. Be patient
2. Limit the number of hours you trade
3. Know your DAILY risk before the day begins and this will dictate
the number of contracts you trade
4. Choose markets with high liquidity
5. Know what reports come out every day and their impact on the markets.
6. Understand that even the best methods will have losing days.
7. Learn to accept loses
8. Use RISK CAPITAL only
9. Don’t try to trade and do other things
10. Educate yourself
11. Keep a trading journal
