The trader’s prayer
May I never be facing north when the markets headed south, and may locked limit always be on my side. 🤜🏼
May the money left on the table be someone else’s and may my pockets be deeper than the correction.
✋ May I always be 5 minutes ahead of the market, And may my order have a clear path to the pit.

This was shared with me by a colleague of mine few years back and I can fully relate and wanted to share it with you as well:
“Look Before You Leap”
On the way to becoming (trying to become…) a successful Futures trader you will incur many losses.
That I can attest to.
One way to guarantee you will never be a successful trader is by taking “out sized” losses.
There was a time, in my 22 year career, that I would get an idea, in my head, that I had to be in a market, jump in and then look at where a proper stop loss would have to be placed and panic because the loss would be too great if the stop loss was reached.
So being the rookie that I was, I would place what was known as a “money’ stop, which is one that is based on how much money I was willing to risk rather one that was based on support or resistance.
Because this type of stop level was arbitrary I kept getting stopped out and then watching as the market turn around and go the way I thought it would.
Then it dawned on me. Look before you leap! So before jumping into the fray, look at where the stop goes first and if it is too far away you can just pass on it or place your “resting” or limit order closer to where a stop can be placed based chart support or resistance, not on “how much you want to lose”
Of course you can still get stopped out but at least you might have a better chance of keeping your losses smaller.

On a different note, bit more humorous….as we head into the holiday season and 2021!

Christmas Holiday Schedule available HERE.
PLATINUM Review by Mark O’Brien, Sr. Broker:
This week’s market focus in on a futures contract whose name is derived from the Spanish term platino, meaning “little silver.” This is Platinum, one of the rarer elements in the Earth’s crust (only a few hundred tons are produced annually with 80% of the world’s production coming from South Africa) and one with important applications. This is also a futures contract that has increased in price from ±$600 per ounce last March to ±1050 per ounce as of this typing – a ±$22,500 dollar move.
What’s next for this metal? We think higher prices are in store. Against the backdrop of daily U.S. Covid-19 infection records and incomprehensible CDC projections for the next 3-4 months – and possibly the darkest days of this pandemic, we also are seeing projections of up to 100 million people vaccinated by the end of February and other encouraging statistics related to the ongoing holiday surge in infections rendering people no longer under the threat of illness. Add to that the explosion of Chinese demand for base commodities and our expectation for a continued slide in the dollar, we are camping with commodity bulls and looking up at platinum’s all-time high in 2008 at $2286 per ounce and estimating there is room to continue higher in that direction.

Gold Daily Chart below. Sympathy rally with Bitcoin?
End of the year rally?
Need to see a close above 1900 to get a bit more excited about this one.
Time will tell.
Quick educational tips:
1. Look for high volume markets with a thin spread, so orders are filled quickly and it has high volatility, so there are opportunities for 2 to 4 good trades during the day. The Emini S&P500 Index Future is a good example of this type of market (Each point is worth $50, split into 4 ticks of $12.50 and there are 4 contracts a year, traded on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange).
2. Try to minimize risk to 1% of your capital per trade, then your capital can absorb 100 consecutive bad trades. Even the best systems can expect 20% -40% loosing trades, so the 1% rule gives you room to maneuver.
3. $10-$15k is the minimum recommended risk capital you should have per Emini S&P500 contract traded – then if you lose $1000-$1500 it only represents 10% of you capital, which is recoverable compared to a $3k account where the same loss equals 50% of your account, consequently you are more likely to lose the remainder of your capital rather than recover the loss. If you don’t have the higher risk capital, limit yourself to the MICROS – 1/10th the size.
4. Limit the hours you trade – the more you trade, the more exposed you are to human weaknesses, frustration and more. Just like an athlete you need to preserve your trading (playing) time….

We are entering the last 2 weeks of 2020.
The last two weeks of December can at times be very choppy as many larger traders/ institutions take the time off. However, this year with COVID, things might be different…..
In between a look at Crude Oil Futures daily chart. Crude has been showing some bullish signs past couple of weeks, possible levels on the chart below.

Rollover Notice: Start trading the March contracts for ES/ NQ/ MICROS/ currencies and many other markets.
One trait that separates good traders from the not soo good….in my opinion?
Ability to lose.
Many different factors go into trading. Too many to discuss efficiently in one blog post. Some relate to trading techniques, other to money management, mental aspect, risk capital and much more.
But one that sticks in my eyes is the ability to take a loss. I see many clients who can make money and have days where they make money but when they lose, they lose much more, sometimes even losing control and losing a big portion of their account.
I am not sure how a trader can embed this into their trading mind, BUT in my opinion if you train your brain to expect losses, understand losses and that losing days will happen, you will increase your chances of surviving in this business, which in return will actually give you a chance to succeed….
Losses are part of trading and as long as your losses are part of the plan and are quantified in advance and you can adhere to your rules, then you have a chance. I think it’s easy when traders are winning…making money etc. Much harder when you lose or down. your brain starts playing tricks on you…it tells you to double down, maybe reverse even though your analysis does not say so….all of a sudden you start pulling trades out of instinct, fear rather than a calculated plan that has solid risk/ reward. If a trader learns how to lose, to accept losses, to have realistic expectations, then he/ she can avoid having one of those terrible days when traders can lose almost of all their account.
