The Nymex crude oil futures market is in a six-week-old downtrend on the daily bar chart and the bears have the overall near-term technical advantage.
A drop in prices below solid chart support at $44.00 would give the bears more technical power to suggest a price drop below the $40.00 level in the coming weeks.
The bulls will have to negate the price downtrend, meaning a move above trend-line resistance at $48.00, to gain some technical strength to then suggest sideways to higher price action is forthcoming.
